You're absolutely right - there's a long history of things being marketed as safe that later turned out to be harmful. Roundup, asbestos, certain heartburn meds, even cigarettes were once advertised as healthy by doctors.
It makes total sense to be skeptical when corporations and regulators have gotten it wrong so many times before, right?
